I'm a wife, a mom, a retiree and a member of organized labor. I was born and raised in Fort Worth to a single working mom that came from a working family. She, my beloved Grandparents and many Aunts and Uncles raised my brother and I. It took the whole village. If we were poor I never knew it. I attended catholic school, as a religious education was important to my family. I also attended public school in small windows.
After several semesters at Junior College I had the opportunity to join the workforce full time. My Aunt Sue had encouraged me to fill out an application at the telephone company. I began a career at Southwestern Bell that spanned decades. Becoming active in my union, CWA, was a new door to education on how we wish to be treated as employees and humans beings versus how we are actually treated by corporations and other large employers.
